Music – the last bastion of art defined “FINE”
Is contemporary POP or Alt music fine art? A few still argue no, but the reality is that all music does have an intellectual component open to interpretation.
It contains tension and release, suspension and mood. Consequently, based on that definition it can qualify as fine art. Music also supports other fine art genres, and is unique in that it can be experienced simultaneously across a number of mediums.
Many live performances and even music videos are without question fine art, and they contain visual as well as aural components.
Fine Art Music no longer has to be Classical. It also encompasses Rock, Alternative, and even Rap.
It’s all in the ear of the beholder.
